This past weekend, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Warren and McDonough Counties was honored to receive Alpha Phi Alpha’s Illinois District Conference Community Service Award. The recognition for our team’s good work began with a luncheon on Friday, and concluded with an award presentation during their banquet dinner on Saturday.
Following our weekend of recognition, we are inspired to share a story of one of the many impacts members of Alpha Phi Alpha have made since becoming one of our national partner’s in the early 1990’s. The ultimate goal of the partnership was to challenge each brother to truly make a difference in a child’s life, and since then, chapters around the nation have excelled in accomplishing that goal through our program. In 2006 one chapter in particular, located in Richmond Virginia, became the only chapter in the nation to have 100% membership as Bigs in a School-Based mentoring program.
